Teradata has a CONTAINS operator which evaluates whether one temporal or period expression contains another temporal or period expression.
 
You may be referring to a different kind of CONTAINS operator, such as Oracle Text's CONTAINS function, which is somewhat comparable to a LIKE predicate.
